As needed, but generally 9 hours/day between 7:30 AM and 9 PM. This position also requires 15-20 hours of preparation before each course, compensation for which is included in the gross amount noted in the employment offer.
Job Summary/Basic Function
The LTC Instructor of a Concordia Language Villages Language Training Center ( LTC ) program is responsible for instruction and overall implementation of a language-specific iso-immersion program as guided by the Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator. This includes planning and implementation of a variety of program elements, some public relations, and interacting with the support staff from the operations areas at the Language Villages. The Instructor is responsible for implementing program elements that reflect the mission and immersion principles/methodology of Concordia Language Villages. The immersion experience also needs to be aligned with the parameters of the Concordia LTC model in accordance with the expressed needs of the LTC client. The Instructor reports to the respective LTC Lead Instructor and to the administrative team of Concordia Language Villages as a whole.
Minimum Qualifications
lSuperior (at minimum) proficiency in the target language/dialects and Advanced (minimum) proficiency English
lCommitment to the importance of immersion language and culture education
lKnowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning
lStrong organizational skills
lExcellent oral and written communication skills
lB.A. degree in related field required, with advanced degree preferred
lAbility to perform the essential functions of the instructor position (see job description)
lEligibility to be employed legally in the USA ; assume responsibility and costs for any visa requirements
lSympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Compensation depends on qualification. The minimum pay is $1,000/week and includes compensation for pre-arrival planning and preparations. T
Airline travel or mileage expenses related to getting to the training course in Bemidji, Minnesota, will also be covered or reimbursed. Additional expenses incurred during the travel to and from the training facility are the responsibility of the employee (including baggage fees, taxi fares, Uber charges, meals, etc.)

This role is a leave replacement position in our Lower Division for 10-12 weeks in late-winter or spring of 2020. The role will be teaching fully in Chinese through our immersion program and will potentially be in classrooms from grades 2-5.
